When we first sat down with Medina Turgul DDB, the table had giant bowls full of an unusual snack we’d never seen before. Everybody agreed then that these “curvy” snacks would lead us to a integrated campaign with a digital focus that would aimed towards teenagers.
At the end, what brought us here was the desire to create an extraordinary world that would capture teenagers’ attention in both digital and conventional media, an idea that would relate to their lives and grow with their sense of humor.
As Fritos is unlike other chips, so is Doritos Academy different from ordinary schools. The courses take place on Youtube, the student registry is on Facebook, and the exams are held over Twitter. With Foursquare and mobile campaigns, it is everywhere and constantly with you.
Such an open-minded institution deserves an open-minded leader. That is why the dean of Doritos Academy is “Huysuz Virjin,” the tempramental, cross-dressing diva, well known in Turkey for her witty humor and attitude.
The center of our campaign is our Facebook page, at www.facebook.com/DoritosTurkiye. Our virtual campus building is on a specially-dedicated microsite, at Doritos Akademi . On Twitter, we currently have eight accounts, including www.twitter.com/doritosakademi and additional accounts for our instructors.
In Doritos Academy, everybody “does their own thing.”
As tribal DDB Istanbul, we believe that we did our “own thing” in the best way for this campaign.
